Cristos Velasco

Dr. Cristos Velasco is an international attorney with over 20 years of experience in cybercrime, cybersecurity, data privacy, and AI regulation and policies. He advises international organizations and trains criminal justice and law enforcement authorities worldwide. He is an associate professor at the DHBW in Mannheim & Stuttgart Germany, teaching ‘Information Technology Law’ and ‘International Organizations and International Trade Law’. Currently, he is based in Mannheim, Germany.

Dr. Cristos Velasco is an international attorney educated and trained in Mexico, USA, Spain, and Germany and has resided in eight different countries. An international practitioner in criminal law and cyberspace regulation and policies with a global mindset and with more than 20 years of experience advising and consulting in the fields of cybercrime & electronic evidence, cybersecurity, data privacy and artificial intelligence, particularly advising on legal reform and facilitating tailored training and capacity building to criminal justice and law enforcement authorities (police, public prosecutors, judges and magistrates) in many countries around the world.

Currently, he is an associate professor in the bachelor’s degree program of the International Management for Business and Information Technology (IMBIT) division at the Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg State Cooperative University (DHBW) in Mannheim and Stuttgart, Germany teaching “Information Technology Law (IT Law)” and “International Organizations and International Trade Law”.

Cristos holds a PhD in Law (Summa Cum Laude) from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), a Master of Laws in International Trade Law (LLM) from the University of Arizona (UofA), a law degree (JD) from Universidad Del Valle de Mexico (UVM) and postgraduate specializations in Business and Corporate Law from ITAM and International Trade Law from Universidad Panamericana (UP) in Mexico City, respectively.

Cristos holds six internationally accredited and recognized certifications in cybercrime, cybersecurity, data protection and Artificial Intelligence.

He has authored five internationally well-known books and many articles, publications, and reports in co-authorship in the field of cybercrime, cyberspace regulation, data privacy law, AI and organized crime, among them: Privacy and Data Protection Law in Mexico published by Wolters Kluwer Law & Business in 2022. Practical Aspects of Cybercrime and Digital Evidence published by Tirant lo blanch in 2021. Cyber Law in Mexico published by Wolters Kluwer Law & Business in 2019.
