Workshop on Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation in Criminal Justice in Bridgetown, Barbados

The UNDP PACE Project and EL PACCTO 2.0 jointly organized a Workshop on Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation in Criminal Justice in Bridgetown, Barbados last May 12-13, 2025. This was the first joint activity organized by both organizations in the Caribbean region.

It makes very glad having actively contributed during the discussions held during this two-day workshop.
I presented on the current trends and crimes assisted or enabled by AI in the context of organized crime occurring in Europe and Latin America, and provided general map out of the main elements and areas that EL PACCTO’s future Model Law on Artificial Intelligence and Organized Crime would contain.
Great initial feedback and relevant comments received from the stakeholders participating during this workshop. Further, I participated in the final wrap-up session where I moderated an interesting discussion with speakers from Trinidad and Tobago, CARICOM IMPACS, and the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) where we discuss ethical aspects of AI, risk assessment of AI, major cybercrime trends enabled by AI and the implementation of AI systems to face the current backlog in the administration of courts and criminal justice in the Caribbean region.

Looking forward to further engagement and collaboration with EL PACCTO and the UNDP PACE team in this meaningful initiative in countries of the Caribbean.
